Turnips are more complex than they first appear. Don’t let this seemingly simple root vegetable deceive you. Biologist and gardening fan Talha Mushtaq shares 21 different kinds of turnips that you can plant in your garden this fall. Turnips are hardy to cold weather, don’t need much care, and can grow in both sun and shade, so they can be used in almost any garden.
Even though their cousins the potatoes are more famous, turnips have a lot of different qualities that can make any garden or cooking experience better.
Each type has its own flavor, texture, and growing needs, from the bright colors of “Red Round” to the dark vibes of “Noir Long Black.”
